A prominent Corpus Christi plaintiffs lawyer who lobbied extensively for tougher laws against barratry has won his own fight against 12 of 13 plaintiffs who alleged that he, his firm and a former lawyer there committed barratry, the illegal solicitation of legal clients.
Each of the 13 plaintiffs brought six causes of action against William R. “Bill” Edwards Sr., The Edwards Law Firm and attorney Jo Emma Arechiga. But after the three defendants filed motions for summary judgment and argued their positions, 28th District Judge Nanette Hasette dismissed two of the claims for all 13 plaintiffs and dismissed the four remaining claims for 12 of the plaintiffs. Now Juan Lucio is the sole remaining plaintiff, and he’s proceeding on just four of six original claims.
