Hospital not liable for doctor’s alleged sexual harassment

A nurse who claimed that a surgeon sexually harassed her lost her case against her employer on Feb. 25. Stephanie Sanders claimed that Dr. Michael Decherd showed her a video of bestiality, among other allegations. The doctor settled for $15,000. The case went to trial against Christus Santa Rosa Physicians Ambulatory Surgery Centers-San Antonio LLC for violations of Title VII, alleging sexual harassment, hostile work environment and retaliation. According to Christus, after Sanders complained, she was promptly given several options to limit or eliminate her contact with Decherd, including working on a different floor. Christus further argued that, because Decherd was not an employee, Christus had only so much control over where and when Decherd worked.
