El Paso solo Antonio “Tony” Reyes is in federal custody after pleading guilty to one charge in a case arising from his days as an El Paso prosecutor; he was accused of conspiring through text messages to accept cash for seeking to dismiss criminal cases.
Reyes faces a June 26 sentencing that could result in up to 20 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000 and up to three years’ supervised release. Reyes entered his guilty plea to one charge of “conspiracy to commit wire fraud and the deprivation of honest services” on April 21. When Reyes committed the crime, he was an assistant district attorney in the 34th Judicial District in El Paso.
