Readers who thumb through the “Names” and “Newsmakers” sections of Texas Lawyer newspaper any given week will encounter many lawyers who use middle initials. Aside from using more newspaper ink, does doing so actually benefit them?

New research by social psychologists Wijnand A. P. van Tilburg and Eric R. Igou suggests that yes, lawyers who use middle initials might have an advantage over their initial-less peers.
