Excessive Force

Cop used palm-heel strike to protect himself, he claimed

A Dallas Police officer didn’t use excessive force on a man at the city jail where he was being processed for public intoxication, a jury found on April 9. Quadriq Sharper claimed that Officer Scott Cantley slammed his face into the pavement while handcuffing him. Defense counsel maintained that Sharper attempted to headbutt Cantley, causing Cantley to reflexively use a palm-heel strike to Sharper’s chest, knocking him to the ground. Defense counsel argued that Cantley used only the amount of force which he reasonably believed to be immediately necessary to maintain control of Sharper and to defend himself.
