A woman who sought legal help over a $5,000 bill she received for body cavity searches ordered by border agents has settled with the hospital that performed the searches for $1.1 million.

The woman, identified in court papers as “Jane Doe,” initially wanted to stop the hospital, El Paso County Hospital, from billing her for the searches performed on her at the request of U.S. Border & Customs agents who did not have a warrant, said Rebecca Robertson, legal and policy director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas.
