Practicing law is one skill. Running a business is another. Austin real estate solo Sara Foskitt launched her firm five years ago using both flat fees and hourly billing but said she didn’t always calculate her costs correctly.

“At the beginning I tended to underestimate, undercharge. It was just part of my nature, feeling like someone was going to say no to my fee,” she said. “After doing the same thing repeatedly, I figured out about how long it takes me to do certain tasks.”
