A trusting friendship between Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Houston trial lawyer Tony Buzbee, bolstered by the fact that both graduated from Texas A&M University, may explain why Perry chose a lawyer who devotes much of his practice to plaintiffs personal injury litigation to lead the team defending him from criminal charges.

Buzbee is a “marvelous choice” for that role, Houston trial lawyer W. Mark Lanier said, because the two Aggies have become close over the past few years, and Buzbee is a “good sharp lawyer.
