Criminal defense attorneys who take appointments to represent indigent criminal defendants must take note of an Oct. 15 deadline to report the time they spend on adult criminal cases and juvenile delinquency cases.
Jim Bethke, executive director of the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, notified members of the Texas Judicial Council that because of a new state law that goes into effect on Sept. 1, indigent defense lawyers must report the percentage of time that they dedicated to such cases.
