Gov. Rick Perry wasn’t the only one who lawyered up during the investigation before the governor’s indictment. The Texas Office of the Governor also paid over $19,000 for an attorney to represent Kenneth “Ken” Armbrister.

In 2007 Armbrister became the legislative director of the governor’s office after declining to seek reelection to the Texas Senate, according to Perry’s website. He was a state representative for three years prior to becoming Victoria’s Democratic senator in 1986.
