A case that must now play out in federal court instead of district court involves a San Antonio firm’s allegations of defamation and client-stealing by a California firm. But the defendant firm argues that it represents the allegedly stolen clients in a billing dispute with the plaintiff.

The defendant, Hellmich Law Group of Irvine, California, recently gave notice that it was removing The Law Offices of Ernesto Martinez Jr.’s case from Bexar County’s 131st District Court to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.
