Worker’s firing was justified, jury finds

On June 5, a jury sided with an employer over a sales associate’s claim that she was wrongfully terminated. Alecestin Aycock worked at a Mesquite furniture store owned by RBLS Inc. She claimed that she was fired in retaliation for filing a workers’ compensation claim. Defense counsel maintained that Aycock was terminated for offering free merchandise as a sales incentive in violation of company policy, an action defense counsel maintained Aycock admitted to taking. Defense counsel argued that the RBLS employees who handled Aycock’s termination were unaware of her workers’ compensation claim.
