A hurricane is brewing in the Galveston County courthouse, with swirling allegations between the county’s district and county court judges on one side and the county judge and commissioners court on the other.

At the center is Bonnie Quiroga, Galveston County’s former director of justice administration. Her employment was terminated, and the county has been interviewing job candidates to replace her. But now, 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox has issued an order to stop interviews, and County Judge Mark Henry has vowed to seek mandamus relief to challenge the order. Meanwhile, the state’s top court administrator asked for an attorney general opinion about how Texas law applies to the termination.
