In an 8-1 decision Oct. 1, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed a lower court’s ruling that the state failed to establish that former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay committed the offenses of money laundering and conspiracy for which he was convicted.

“This decision undermines the fairness and integrity of our elections,” Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg wrote in a statement released by her office.
