The state has urged the court in new filings to reject an alleged attempt by Gov. Rick Perry to fast-track his case to the appellate courts to sidestep a trial.

“This case is not merely a matter of whether a veto is proper. It is a matter of whether the defendant committed criminal acts in abusing the power that had been bestowed upon him,” alleged the state’s response to one of Perry’s earlier filings. “The defendant argues he did not break the law. The state alleges he did. This is precisely why the justice system exists: to resolve these types of disputes.”
