Jury sides with school board’s firing

A school board was justified in its termination of a teacher, a jury found on Oct. 6. Brian Waterman taught at the Collin County Juvenile Center for the Kinney Independent School District and had his contract terminated for allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation against coworkers and failure to obey the orders of a superior. He claimed that he was fired in retaliation for reports to his supervisor about promotions without testing. The school district claimed that he was fired for inappropriate remarks to female teachers and an instance where he failed to intervene when male students made sexual comments to a teacher.
