The Texas Judicial Council has approved a resolution to ask the Texas Legislature to pass a bill that would ensure that indigent parents battling the state in child custody lawsuits would get court-appointed lawyers sooner.

Children’s Commission executive director Tina Amberboy noted that on any given day, there are 28,000 children in foster care and a lot of parents who need lawyers.
