The State Office of Administrative Hearings should improve its budgeting process and provide managerial training for supervisors to better oversee and evaluate judges’ work, according to a report by the Sunset Advisory Commission.

The Sunset Advisory Commission reviews state agencies every 12 years and makes recommendations to the Texas Legislature for abolishing agencies, or improving their operations. Lawmakers are scheduled to review the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) during the upcoming 84th Legislative Session. Based on the sunset commission’s report, lawmakers will delve into the SOAH’s budgeting process, independence in conducting tax hearings, management policies and more.
