In less than eight months, Kirkland & Ellis has built an office of 36 lawyers in Houston, a significant example of just how active the Texas lateral market has been during 2014.

Andrew Calder, a Kirkland partner who opened the Houston office in late April, said the growth has been in line with the firm’s plans for the office, which was established, in part, to do more work for energy companies. He said the Chicago-based firm will continue to build its capital markets practice and debt practice in Houston by adding more lawyers in 2015, and then look to add litigation strength.
