Nearly 400 Gardere employees in Dallas were back at work Friday after a Thursday morning fire in an underground parking garage emptied the Thanksgiving Tower, one of the city’s most prominent skyscrapers, of thousands of workers. Three construction workers died in the blaze.
Gardere is the largest law firm at Thanksgiving Tower, occupying seven floors. Fire alarms went off around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, said Judy Vetkoetter, the firm’s executive director. The building’s management company, the Dallas Fire Department, and the volunteer fire wardens made sure all of Gardere’s employees safely made the 30-floor walk down the stairway to the street, Vetkoetter said.
