The Texas Senate has axed the committee that handled the most legislation about the civil justice system.
During a session on Jan. 21, the Senate dissolved its Jurisprudence Committee along with three others. Bigger headlines came from another action during the same meeting: Senators changed the number of votes required to get a bill to the floor for passage. Now, just three-fifths of senators, rather than two-thirds, must vote to bring a bill up for a vote.
