Texas lawyers have benefitted greatly from the state’s dynamic Texas economy that has grown at a rate well above the national average, largely due to oil prices remaining relatively strong. During the past decade, substantially all aspects of the energy business have grown and the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford and other productive regions have continued to develop, largely due to the ability of exploration and production companies to find and extract large volumes of oil from shale formations using unconventional technology.

Attorneys practicing in the energy sector now recognize that some clients’ efforts to find oil have been perhaps too successful, reflected in the declining prices around the world during the past year. Texas lawyers have seen not only the service companies affected with resulting layoffs, but real estate projects deferred.
