If the Texas Senate were to pass a bill to require new lawyers to swear to be civil, it would only happen if senators made it clear that they were not authorizing lawsuits against uncivil lawyers.

In a March 2 public hearing before the Senate State Affairs Committee, senators discussed Senate Bill 534, which would add a line to the lawyer oath to require attorneys to swear to “conduct oneself with integrity and civility in dealing and communicating with the court and all parties.”
