A grand jury eliminated many of the federal government’s bribery-related charges against former 144th District Judge Angus McGinty of San Antonio.

McGinty previously faced 15 charges, but now he faces just five. Under a new indictment, the government added one new charge, kept four charges the same and dropped 11 other charges against McGinty. Now, the ex-judge faces conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud; three counts of honest services wire fraud; and extortion under color of official right, according to a March 4 superseding indictment in United States v. McGinty, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.
