If a proposed Senate bill passes, Texas counties may soon be on the road to recovery as far as gaining access to oil and gas revenue from county-owned land to fix highways damaged by oil field-related traffic.

According to Senate Bill 1788, introduced by State Sen. Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio on March 13, Lone Star counties owning lands that produce oil and gas revenue would be allowed to keep the royalty payments generated from the minerals under their property and dedicate that money to road funding.
