The Senate State Affairs Committee voted 7-2 to approve a bill that would create a public integrity unit in the Texas Office of the Attorney General. Senators Rodney Ellis and Judith Zaffirini voted against the bill.
The committee on March 16 passed a substitute version of Senate Bill 10, which would require the AG’s public integrity unit to investigate certain insurance fraud and motor fuels tax fraud crimes, and offenses against public administration. The AG’s public integrity unit would refer prosecutions to a district attorney or county attorney in the criminal defendant’s hometown.
