Plaintiff claimed family law attorney botched case

A man who claimed that a family law attorney botched his case, was awarded $250 on Jan. 29. Jeffery Hunter hired attorney Julie Ketterman to seek modification of Hunter’s support obligations toward his minor son. Ketterman also defended Hunter in a subsequent action by the child’s mother to enforce Hunter’s child support obligations. Disputes arose between Hunter and Ketterman regarding her handling of these matters, and he fired her. Hunter claimed that, because of Ketterman’s negligence, his child support obligations stayed at their original level rather than being decreased in accordance with the August 2007 mediated settlement agreement. The plaintiff sought about $20,000, including a refund of a $5,500 retainer that he had paid her.
