While Texas has enjoyed a 22 percent spike in housing starts over the past couple years, contractors are seeing a downside based on the flurry of lawsuits by subcontractors who claim they are not getting paid for their work.
Contractors experience a variety of non-payment issues during construction upswings, including disputes over change orders, allegedly defective work, contract interpretations, completion delays, contract terminations and damage valuations. While some of these disputes are unavoidable, there are legal steps contractors can take to avoid unnecessary heartaches.
