The State Bar of Texas board of directors on April 10 approved a proposal to require elderly lawyers to take continuing legal education each year.
Currently, state bar rules and regulations exempt attorneys over 70 years old from taking 15 credit hours of CLE each year. The approved change deletes those exemptions and requires older lawyers to meet CLE requirements starting in the June 1, 2016, bar year. The Texas Supreme Court must grant final approval of the change, said an email by state bar spokesman Lowell Brown.
