War vet with PTSD awarded $28,591 on his disability claim

An Iraq War veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder who needed to bring his service dog to work was awarded $28,591 on his Americans with Disabilities Act claim on March 23. Juan Alonzo-Miranda, who worked for Schlumberger Technology Corp., claimed that the company denied a reasonable accommodation of his disability. The company granted his accommodation but placed restrictions such as requiring him to use a side door and barring his dog from the office and other areas. The company claimed that allowing the dog in the facility posed a safety risk, and that restrictions placed on the accommodation were reasonable. The plaintiff noted that another Schlumberger facility had a mascot dog that was allowed to freely roam the facility.
