The 84th State Legislature is working hard to promote export possibilities for Texas crude oil and natural gas products. Recently, both the Texas Senate and the Texas House approved resolutions seeking to have the U.S. Congress remove the prohibition against crude oil exports and speed up the permitting process to construct liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals along the Gulf Coast. The two resolutions were recently sent to Gov. Greg Abbott for his approval.
The Texas House recently approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 32 with a unanimous vote. Sponsored by Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, the resolution urges Congress to expedite natural gas exports. The text of SCR 32 emphasizes that “currently, an American company can export liquefied natural gas only to the limited group of countries with which the United States has existing free trade agreements, unless the firm obtains a license by undergoing an onerous application process through the Department of Energy.”
