With 147 lawyers dedicated to its intellectual property practice, including 82 in Texas, Baker Botts has built its IP reputation on size, diversity of its practice and the large number of technical degrees held by its lawyers.

Dallas partner Bart Showalter, chairman of the intellectual property department firmwide, said the firm’s lawyers have filed and handled 89 post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, represented clients in litigation in courts in Texas and all over the country, including in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and reached a favorable settlement in 2014 after winning on a summary judgment and Daubert motion in a case in which the plaintiff originally demanded about $100 million in damages.
