Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners is now joining the dash for gas in the Marcellus Shale play in Pennsylvania. Stretching across Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York, the Marcellus Shale is believed to hold the largest volume of recoverable natural gas resources in the United States. In 2012, it was estimated to have 141 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable gas by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and 88 trillion cubic feet by the U.S. Geological Survey.
Commenting on its previously announced Revolution Project, ETP recently discussed its plans to significantly increase its operations in the growing Marcellus and Upper Devonian production areas of western Pennsylvania. The company has entered into long-term gas gathering, processing and fractionation agreements with EdgeMarc Energy, an oil and gas company that is actively engaged in drilling Marcellus and Burkett shale wells in Butler County, Pennsylvania, according to a recent press release issued by ETP. Specifically, EdgeMarc has more than 25,000 acres under lease, over 20 wells drilled to date and has completed the construction of the 22-mile Constellation Pipeline.
