Mexico’s population is now more than 120 million people, according to the 2014 census numbers. Faced with an exploding population, Mexico’s state-owned electricty utility, Comisión Federal de Electricidad, recently announced plans to spend close to $10 billion to bolster the amount of electricity provided to its citizens.
In its effort to increase electrical production, the CFE will tender a total of 24 projects, which include five natural gas pipelines, three small pipeline branches, four power generation stations and a series of electricity transmission and distribution projects, according to the recent CFE press release. The proposed onshore and offshore pipelines will provide higher volumes of U.S. natural gas imports to meet the demand in Mexico.
