I just finished reading a remarkable and life inspiring book by former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens, “Resilience: Hard-Won Wisdom For Living A Better Life.” Let’s talk about his chapter on mentors and mentorship. Here are five of his insights.
No. 1: Why be a mentor? Good question. Simple answer: you love the work. What you do is not just a way of earning a living, keeping body and soul together, but rather a way of life. Here is Greitens: “And part of respecting a way of life is passing it on, doing what you can to make sure it doesn’t die with you. That goes for everyone from loggers to sportswriters to sculptors.”
