Judge Michelle Slaughter, who was reprimanded for posting about her criminal cases on Facebook, maintains that she did nothing wrong and that it was her duty to distribute information about the courts. But the State Commission on Judicial Conduct argues that the judge crossed a line of judicial ethics by making reasonable people question her impartiality.

The arguments unfolded in a rare special court of review in which Slaughter, judge of the 405th District Court in Galveston, appealed the commission’s public reprimand that alleged that six Facebook posts violated the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct.
