Since Sharen Wilson became Tarrant County’s first female district attorney in January, she’s shown some of the office’s senior prosecutors the door; extended work hours; re-examined when to seek the death penalty; and even advocated for letting defense attorneys bypass long security lines in the courthouse.

Texas Lawyer senior reporter John Council spoke with Wilson on July 27 about the many changes she’s instituted in one of Texas’ largest DA offices. The following has been edited for style and length.
