Power plan or power play? The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency takes the position that the goal of the agency’s new Clean Power Plan, which was recently announced by President Barack Obama and the EPA, is to improve the environment and human health by cutting significant amounts of carbon pollution from electric power plants.

In contrast, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton argue that the new environmental rule is an aggressive federal overreach that will damage the Texas economy. In reaction to the new CPP, Paxton recently announced his intent to file suit on behalf of the state of Texas once the final carbon rule is published, according to Cynthia Meyer, the press secretary for the Office of the Texas Attorney General.
