Even with oil prices continuing to cool off, it comes as no surprise that conflicts over oil and gas leases are still a hot area of litigation.

A current example of a fiery feud pertaining to oil and gas leases involves the lawsuit that Orca Assets brought in Dallas County, Texas, against JPMorgan Chase Bank; JPMorgan Chase as trustee of the Red Crest Trust; and Philip Mettham, alleging fraud, negligent misrepresentation and breach of contract. As part of the lawsuit, Orca is suing the defendants for alleged missed profits totaling around $400 million.
