In a two-room schoolhouse in Bassett, Nebraska, a young Michael Donley was able to learn at his own pace as he started his education. It is an experience he remembers fondly, and part of the reason he went on to earn three college degrees and is now working in education.

Donley, 41, is university counsel for the University of Texas at Tyler. Donley handles general legal issues but is also a member of the university president’s executive staff and a chair of the university’s Strategic Planning Committee. He reviews and approves all contracts, student and human resources issues, and is involved in some management and hiring, he said.
