From fracking to fireball—that is the accusation being made by the plaintiff Cody Murray and members of his family, who were injured in a severe water well explosion in August 2014 that left them with severe burns. Murray and his family have filed a lawsuit in the 95th District Court of Dallas County, Texas, alleging that two oil and gas companies’ drilling and extraction activities near their home in Jack County, Texas, caused their private water well to be contaminated with methane and led to the flash explosion.
According to the plaintiffs’ original petition that was filed on Aug. 6, the explosion caused severe and extensive burns to Murray, leaving the 38-year-old husband and father permanently disfigured and disabled. The explosion of the contaminated water well also caused serious burn injuries to Murray’s father, Jim; his wife, Ashley; and his minor daughter, A.M. Christopher Hamilton, owner/partner, and Angela Pacheco, partner, at the Dallas firm Standly Hamilton are representing the plaintiffs in the case.
