A national tort reform group has ranked Texas as No. 40 among the 50 states for its legal system and litigation environment.

Texas earned a score of 58.5 out of 100 to land in the No. 40 spot, according to the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform’s 2015 lawsuit climate survey. The survey was based on telephone and online surveys of 1,203 in-house lawyers and executives in companies with at least $100 million in annual revenue. It was meant to gauge the business community’s attitudes towards each state’s legal system. There is a 2.8 percentage point margin of error in the findings.
