Disappointed with the low number of bids in the first round of bids for its offshore oil blocks earlier this year, the Mexican government recently announced tweaks to the bidding rules to entice more interest in the second round.
Due to take place Sept. 30, the second auction will offer five groups of shallow-water fields in Mexico, according to the Mexico’s energy department, the Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos (National Hydrocarbons Commission). This is in contrast to the first round, which was held in July and offered 14 blocks for sale, but only saw two blocks auctioned off.
