Jeff Edwards’ nervousness turned to joy when, after a four-day trial and six hours deliberating, a federal jury in Amarillo delivered a verdict that has led to $1 million final judgment against Swisher County in a wrongful death case.
Edwards’ clients sued Swisher County because their disabled relative, Terry Borum, died after a short jail stay. During that stay, jailers allegedly did nothing more for Borum’s alcoholic withdrawal symptoms than provide him with sips of orange juice and honey.
