The title for this article may seem crazy to many, particularly in a political season marked with fights over climate change and greenhouse gas regulation. But the most innovative and entrepreneurial economy in the world, the United States, has produced miracles before.

While environmental protection frequently is called a “job killer,” new technologies and financial and business models are turning this view on its head. For states that are going to implement the EPA Clean Power Plan, new technologies and Internet-connected energy management offer a means of achieving some of the emissions reductions for free or for profit.
