A small-town barber who sued a well-known Corpus Christi plaintiffs lawyer has been indicted for perjury for allegedly lying in a deposition about a central fact in the lawsuit.

The indictment in Texas v. Avalos charges Joe Avalos, who is also known as Jose Avalos, with third-degree felony aggravated perjury. The indictment alleges that on Sept. 4, 2013, Avalos intended to deceive by making a false statement under oath. He allegedly said that he owned a property in the 500 block of East Main Street in Robstown, Texas. But he knew that the statement was false: the property had been foreclosed by a bank on Feb. 5, 2013, and then sold to a real estate company, the indictment said.
