Scott Powers, a partner in the Austin office of Baker Botts, led a team that won a $50 million final judgment this month against Patricia Maldonado, who worked with R. Allen Stanford.
As a Houston financier, Stanford once sat atop a $7 billion Ponzi scheme that bilked investors at a rate of $1 million a day. He now resides in a Florida federal penitentiary and faces a 110-year prison sentence that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit recently upheld.
