The firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is representing Northern Tier Energy in its pending merger with Western Refining, an independent oil refiner and marketer headquartered in El Paso. In contrast, Western turned to the firm of Vinson & Elkins to represent it in the deal.
In a recent statement, Western and Northern Tier jointly announced that they have entered into a merger agreement whereby Western will acquire all of Northern Tier’s outstanding common units that it does not already own.
