Despite the ongoing slump in oil and gas prices, there continues to be a gusher of mergers and acquisitions activity in the U.S. energy sector.

One example of a recent major acquisition in this volatile section of the economy is the move by Terra Energy Partners, the Houston-based independent oil and natural gas company, to acquire WPX Energy Rocky Mountain from WPX Energy Inc. for $910 million in cash.
