There was a standing ovation, hoots and hollers as 390th District Judge Julie Kocurek took the bench for the first time since she survived an assassination attempt last November.

Kocurek, wearing a wrist brace that included metal pins and rods, told a courtroom packed with lawyers, judges and journalists that she feels reborn. Putting on her judicial robes and climbing to her bench felt good and right, she said.
